3 Ways to Get Out of a Funk

We all get into them and we all get out of them eventually (at least I hope). When I get into a funk it typical has something to do with a lack of inspiration, poor decisions, bad eating habits, etc. I isolate myself and become super lazy for a day or so, but the second I try one of these three methods, I am back on my feet and I start thinking more positively.

Taking a Walk

Sounds simple I know, but taking some time to power walk on the treadmill or do a walk around the block is a great and easy way to clear your head. Exercising is my favorite way to alleviate stress and anxiety. Even if I do a 15 minute workout, the feeling of productivity is comforting to my mind.

Trying Something New

Whether it's trying a new workout class or meeting up with someone you met only once before, sharing a new experience with other people always makes me feel proud of myself. A couple of months ago, one of my friends invited me out and I knew no one besides him. There was something so scary yet so rewarding about going out completely by myself. It forces you out of your comfort zone and out of your head.

Breathing

Regulating and controlling your breath not only relieves the mind but it also is proven to relax the body. Breathing exercises can sometimes seem a little strange, but they really do help me whenever I'm feeling anxiety or stress. I like to take three deep breaths to help reset my mind every now and then. It really helps if you inhale through your nose for as long as you can, and then exhale through your mouth loosely.
